Draft Apprenticeships Bill
Launch date: 16 July 2008
Closing date: 8 October 2008
Date of response: 4 December 2008
Summary of responses to the public consultation
On Wednesday 16 July 2008 we published the Draft Apprenticeships Bill. This followed the publication in January of Word-class Apprenticeships: Unlocking Talent, Building Skill for All, which set out our plans to enhance and expand apprenticeships. In publishing the Bill, we wanted to hear from those interested in apprenticeships about the effectiveness of the draft legislation in supporting the proposals in Word-class Apprenticeships.
We had 70 written responses to the consultation from a wide range of stakeholders including employers’ organisations, Professional Bodies, Sector Skills Councils, training providers, trades unions, local authorities, charities and individuals. The Central Office of Information undertook an analysis of the responses and its report is attached. We are considering the responses we have received as we take the legislation forward.
The Children, Schools and Families Select Committee and the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Select Committee have been scrutinising the Bill and their reports are expected shortly.
The apprenticeships legislation will form part of the 4th session Bill.
